It takes practice
Check this out. Great before and after pictures of what years of practice looks like.
The Letter Project–Letters to and from Whitney
Check out these letters to and from Whitney and the Halloween Mail Art I made for Whitney from a Turkish Map Fold Book.
The Short List
Trello has done wonders for me this year. But even then I have felt overwhelmed by the number of projects on my to-do list. So I combined my boards for a total of four: Writing, Short Stories, Artist’s Way, and Art Projects.
And I started making goals for the week. Three to five small things I want to accomplish before the week ends.
The Letter Project–Letter to Theresa
Check out the letter I sent to Theresa. I drew Moomin characters created by Tove Jansson and Zentangles.

Three Year Anniversary
Wow! I’ve blogged about writing for three years. Check out the first post here. I took art classes, continued my list of reading goals, and developed daily writing and daily art habits. I discovered Trello and added gluten-free cooking to my arsenal. Thanks for a great year!
35 Sketchbooks
Since this has been the year of art, I’ve been organizing my studio, including my art supplies. I have 35 sketchbooks that I would like to fill by the end of the year.
–3 marker pads
–9 watercolor pads
–6 charcoal pads
–15 for sketching
–2 for projects
Visit Sunny Chernobyl
What a delightful read! I enjoyed Andrew‘s adventures around the world’s most polluted places. I definitely recommend reading this book for insight about the effects of pollution and how people survive and adapt anyway.
Poetry Journal–Complete!
I finished a notebook today. The poetry project, “What is Love?” is also going well–I finished “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green and “Not a Match: My True Tales of Online Dating Disasters” by Brian Donovan. This is part one because I started a second poetry journal later that year when I went to New Orleans.
Okay? Okay.

I finally sat down and read “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green and then saw the movie. I’ve owned the book since October 2012, but I’ve been distracted by other books to read and writing and art projects. But with the movie looming, I didn’t want to repeat my mistake of watching the movie before reading the book, which I did with “The Hunger Games.” TFIOS is one of my favorite movie adaptations. And as a Nerdfighter, I’ve enjoyed hearing John and Hank talk about the book and the movie.
Favorite quotes:
- Qualities of a good nurse: 1. Doesn’t pun on your disability. 2. Gets blood on the first try. 3. No condescending voice.
- But I believe in true love, you know? I don’t believe that everybody gets to keep their eyes or not get sick or whatever, but everybody should have true love, and it should last at least as long as your life does.
- I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.
