Romeo and Juliet

I read “Romeo and Juliet” when I was a freshman in high school. I’ve seen a couple of movie versions but never the play.

If I were Juliet, I would’ve left a note for my parents saying I married Romeo. No need to marry Paris or go to the Friar. But I’m not Juliet. Of Shakespeare’s plays, “Much Ado About Nothing” is one of my favorites.

Kurt Vonnegut–how to read fiction

Check out this article about the assignment Kurt Vonnegut gave to his students in the form of a letter. I’ll have to pick one of my favorite short story collections and do the exercise myself.

NaNo 2012

This year, my NaNo was a success. Without a novel on board, I have caught up on some chores. Looking back over the month, there were several days my word count was zero, but the most words I wrote in one day was 5275. This was the first NaNo where I finished two days early and with 300 words to spare.

A record, for sure.

As for my treat of finishing a novel draft…after I finish cleaning the kitchen.

NaNo–Day 28

Today is a record. I have not finished NaNo prior to November 30, so to finish on November 28 with 50,396 words is pretty awesome. To sleeping for a full eight hours and writing more poetry, I welcome December.

NaNo–Day 27

I am in the home stretch. At 46,312 words, it is hard to believe that another NaNo has come and gone. To the next three days…let’s finish this novel.

Poetry Project #6

This year I started poetry projects. I pick a subject and then write several poems on it to explore the subject in-depth. This year I have explored the following.

  1. I love you, I know bracelets
  2. Hands
  3. Fear
  4. Fruits, vegetables, and mothers
  5. The Phoenix Project

And now I’m working on taking song lyrics and cutting them out to form new fragments of poems that I will later expand into longer poems. At Winter Wheat, I attended a cut out poetry session. We used song lyrics, but I’ve been wanting to explore Nightwish lyrics because I love every album. Starting with “Angels Fall First,” I have finished the first four songs and have more than twenty poem fragments.

NaNo–Day 25

43847 words. Five days to go. It’s nice to be ahead so late in the game. I looked at my stats from last year, and because of my finger sprain, I was behind in the middle of the month and had to catch up when I could type fast enough. This year I got behind toward the middle too, but I’m caught up now.

And to think, this is my fourth NaNoWriMo, and it’s almost over. I was still able to watch movies, hang out with friends, and work on other projects.
