Don’t Break the Fiction Writing Chain
I’ve written fiction every day for fourteen days in a row. The Don’t Break the Chain Calendar has been a useful motivation tool to keep track of my progress. There is also a dinosaur version here. I’ve completed one short story, wrapped up my 2014 NaNo novel, and wrote the first draft of my graphic …
Bullet Journal
I’ve been juggling my to-do lists and project lists on post-it notes, Trello, and in various writing journals. A friend recommended Bullet Journal, so I’ve started one. Already I’m enjoying the system in combination with techniques from “Getting Things Done.”
NaNo–Day 16
41288 words. Wow. I can’t believe that I’m almost to the finish line, though now I realize this book is more likely a trilogy than a standalone novel. The second day of Winter Wheat sessions was also successful. I attended a session about rejection with Laura Maylene Walter. I’m inspired to attempt 250 submissions in …
NaNo–Day 1
National Novel Writing Month is finally here! Got off to a great start this morning with 3,440 words. Two scenes I didn’t expect came to mind while working on the beginning, so I’m looking forward to tackling those tomorrow.

This book, “Letters to My Future Self” takes the prompt to the next level, providing envelopes with a prompt on the flap, a page to write the letter, and stamps to seal it. …
Novel a Month Update
I finished reading “Sense and Sensibility.” At the beginning of the month I started working on Novel #5 for three days. Then Novel #7 was born, so I focused on Novel #7. For September, I will focus on Novel #7 and continue reading Jane Austen’s novel in preparation for NaNo (Novel #6) in November.
Novel a Month
NaNo is approaching. I’ve started reading “Sense and Sensibility” in preparation for NaNo this year. I have five other novels that are in various stages of completion. So for the month of August, I will focus on one novel and see how far I get with revisions and rewrites. Then at the end of the …
Doodle a Day
I will do my best to make a doodle a day and fill my sketchbooks. The goal: 365 days. 4 down. Check out Theresa Williams’ doodles here.
Lydia Netzer
It was wonderful to meet Lydia Netzer, a BGSU alumna, at the Toledo library. She said that publishing a novel is like handing the writer a box of matches–the writer can only fight so many edits. So save them for the important stuff. She works on five or six novels at a time, writing until …
