The Letter Project–Letter to Whitney
Check out this letter I wrote to Whitney.
Prompts update
There will be a temporary hiatus on prompts. I have been very busy lately and need time to focus on my writing. I’ll start posting prompts again soon. Thanks for your patience!
The Letter Project–Letter to Theresa
A letter to Theresa, with some new stamps.
The Letter Project–Letter to Theresa
I wrote this letter to Theresa, including one of my favorite watercolor paintings so far and the latest in our discussion of the epistolary form.
Josh Russell’s novel
I finished reading “A True History of the Captivation, Transport to Strange Lands, & Deliverance of Hannah Guttentag” by Josh Russell.
The novel is a great read and definitely one you should add to your reading list. Hannah is a student at Cornell, and she has adventures in New Orleans and Nebraska. Russell’s novel is one of the best books I’ve read this year.
The Letter Project–Letter from Theresa
Check out the Baby Zombo picture I received in the mail from Theresa.
The Phoenix Project
After a letter to Theresa, I was inspired to make watercolor paintings of phoenixes. Each painting was accompanied by a poem and sent via mail.
First Flight
Step onto the branch.
Look down but not for long.
Search for a target in the sky
and leap for it.
First Day of School
With book bag, supplies
and lunch in tow, it’s time
to get on the bus
and wait for the wheels
to turn toward learning.
First Bra
The shelf needs to be
contained with cloth,
wire, lace, ribbons
and bows, a support
network for the twins.
First Period
Typical visit to the bathroom
till blood stains the paper.
The first moon smiled.
First Driving Lesson
Keys in hand,
behind the wheel,
stay centered in lane,
practice, practice, practice
slow down!
First Prom
One chance to go
with camera on arm
and no partner.
First Pelvic Exam
My body realized
it owned a cervix.
First Graduation
Four years and the work
is over, ready to be rewarded
with freedom from homework
and group projects. But
learning never ends.
First Wedding
The special day, dressed in white,
ready for kisses and hugs,
food and fun with family
and friends, making memories
for years to come.
First Baby
A small seed grows and grows,
kicks legs and waves arms
to say Hello Mom, Hello World,
can’t wait to meet you!
First Fire
Talons and claws
give way to decent
nails painted with polish
at the salon.
Feathers ragged and soft,
clean and raw with soap,
eyes forever seeing
the process as it unfolds.
Watching “Community”
Recently I started watching “Community.” I am working on Season 3 episodes. Guess who my favorite characters are, though I love them all. (Hint: two and they both begin with “a”).

Prompt–Sunday, September 2
Your character is eating a plum when s/he notices something.
Beth would continue with her plans to flush the contacts down the toilet. No seeing eye in the plum could change her mind.
The reason for attempting contacts died with Martin. Left at the altar as he gasped his last breaths in a car accident on the way to church. Rimmed glasses with thick lenses were her new best friend.
Watercolor
I made my first watercolor paintings this week. And of course it was weird to use a brush when I’m used to finger painting. But it was fun. Totally in love with the paper.
