NaNo–Day 6

So I was able to get caught up from yesterday. My nap lasted longer than expected. But it is okay because I was able to make it to 10737 words. Definitely getting a better idea of this novel’s shape and characters. And it helps that I was able to get my new laptop today. I …

NaNo–Day 1

The first day of NaNo went well! I wrote 1824 words, going above and beyond the goal of 1667 for the first day. I had my last lunch (it wasn’t Ramen) before NaNo started. I couldn’t recall the last time I ate soup that wasn’t Ramen or wasn’t made by myself.

Josh Russell’s novel

I finished reading “A True History of the Captivation, Transport to Strange Lands, & Deliverance of Hannah Guttentag” by Josh Russell. The novel is a great read and definitely one you should add to your reading list. Hannah is a student at Cornell, and she has adventures in New Orleans and Nebraska. Russell’s novel is one of …

One Year Anniversary!

Well, folks, it’s been one year since I started this blog. Check out the first post here.   In that year I’ve graduated from college and changed apartments. I completed NaNoWriMo for the third year in a row, this time with a sprained finger. I finished the second draft of my novel, and I’m working …

Prompt–Sunday, May 13

Since I’ve discovered the Lizzie Bennet Diaries, I’ve thought about the process of adapting a novel into a vlog. What story would you adapt? What would change? For this exercise, I would adapt “A Confederacy of Dunces” by John Kennedy Toole. Ignatius writes letters to Myrna and writes his histories and the working boy stories. What …

Prompt–Sunday, February 12

I finished reading “Griffin & Sabine: An Extraordinary Correspondence” by Nick Bantock. It is a novel in letters. One of the lines that caught my attention was in one of Griffin’s letter: “Art for art’s sake is best quarantined here in the old world. I crave an art that passionately transcends the mundane instead of being a …

Grendel–John Gardner

For my contemporary fiction class we read “Grendel” by John Gardner. What strikes me most about the novel is the language and why we tell stories. Some of my favorite lines: “Stars, spattered out through lifeless night from end to end, like jewels scattered in a dead king’s grave, tease, torment my wits toward meaningful …

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Yesterday I saw the film “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” based on the book by Jonathan Safran Foer. I read the book two years ago for class. The experimental nature of it with the addition of photographs and other elements enhanced the story for me. It became one of the novels I’ve recommended others to …

Some videos to watch

A friend of mine started vblogging this year, so I watched them as a way to support him. And as someone who has not read a lot of horror, I am interested in learning more and will continue to watch. This is his second video.  In the video he shared that he reads a short …

Short Story Update

I started working on another short story Tuesday night but I haven’t finished it yet. I went to the Toledo Museum of Art with a friend Tuesday. I did some research on a novel idea and made significant progress. Yesterday I went to the Napoleon Public Library for their book sale and got a great haul …
